About the Kansas City Frontrunners & Walkers

The Kansas City Frontrunners & Walkers began in the 1980s when a small group of friends started meeting for regular runs and walks around the neighborhood. Today we’re a large, thriving community of runners and walkers of every skill level from a casual stroll to a brisk run — but what hasn’t changed is our commitment to connecting LGBTQIA+ people in the metro through exercise, good food, and a genuine sense of belonging.

We meet year-round, and while we do cancel for extreme weather, it’s not unusual to find us out on the road or trail in every month of the year. Anyone who’s lived in KC knows we get plenty of variety in the weather department — which makes us appreciate all the seasons (some more than others!).

We’re a proud chapter of the International Front Runners, a worldwide network of LGBTQIA+ running and walking clubs. Our name traces back to The Front Runner, Patricia Nell Warren’s groundbreaking 1974 gay romance novel — and it’s still a great read today.

The best way to get to know us? Come out for a run or walk and stick around for the meal afterward. Check our schedule and join us at the next event!
